Our Nation

My heart is truly broken for our nation. At perhaps the most critical election in our history, the true beliefs of the citizens of America have shown clearly. We no longer value life, but self. We would rather murder one of the greatest blessings of God...children. We no longer fear God, as we elected by a large majority a party which would prefer to have God removed from its platform. The supreme god in this nation is now government. We don't value the Constitution, given to us by a much wiser generation of godly men. They were wise enough to understand that if we forsake absolute truth, God, and morality, our nation will fall:

---- "The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."    ~Noah Webster

---- "If thou wouldst rule well, thou must rule for God, and to do that, thou must be ruled by Him....those who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants."    ~William Penn

---- "Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure Virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure, than they have it now, they may change their Rulers and the forms of Government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty."    ~John Adams

---- "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."    ~John Adams

My first question was, "Why would God allow this?" In answer, He reminded me of this Scripture:

---- "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into and image made like corruptible man - and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgement of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them."    ~Romans 1:18-32

Despite the fact that our nation is under judgement, and no longer has the hand of God upon it in favor, God has promised that in terrible circumstances He is in control.

---- "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, those who are the called according to His purpose."    ~Romans 8:28

As Christians, we even have hope!

---- "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance."    ~Romans 8:18-25

The Lord has made it clear that Barack Obama is not the problem, he is the symptom of a dying nation. This does not mean that there is no hope for our nation....we must pray fervently that because of the struggles soon to come many people will repent and turn to the Lord. He has done many great things, and He can change the heart of this nation if He chooses. However, I believe this will require difficult times, whether economic or otherwise, where the true remnant of the Church begins once again to lead the culture, instead of allowing the culture to lead it.

Stand firm in the gospel, and you will not be shaken!

Witty Wednesday [7]

Today I am going to do something slightly different. I received a fantastic email yesterday about Thomas Jefferson, and I would like to post the contents for Witty Wednesday.

Thomas Jefferson

"Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped.

At 5, began studying under his cousin's tutor.

At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French.

At 14, studied Classical Literature and additional languages.

At 16, entered the college of William and Mary.

At 19, studied law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.

At 23, started his own law practice.

At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.

At 31, wrote the widely circulated 'Summary View of the Rights of British America' and retired from his law practice.

At 32, was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress.

At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence.

At 33, took three years to revise Virginia's legal code and wrote a public education bill and a statute for religious freedom.

At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.

At 40, served in Congress for two years.

At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.

At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.

At 53, served as Vice President and was elected President of the American Philosophical Society.

At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of Republican Party.

At 57, was elected the third President of the United States.

At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation's size.

At 61, was elected to a second term as President.

At 65, retired to Monticello.

At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.

At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.

At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence [July 4] along with John Adams.

Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, His laws, and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff. A voice from the past to lead us in the future.

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the White House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement: 'This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in the White House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.'

[Some quotes from Thomas Jefferson:]

'When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.'

'The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.'

'It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes.  A principle which is acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.'

'I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.'

'My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.'

'No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.'

'The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves from tyranny in government.'

'The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.'

'To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.'

Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless in the continent their fathers conquered.'"

When I read this email I got goose-bumps! To perceive how far we have come is mind-boggling. Our understanding is weak compared to that of our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson talked about things that weren't even occurring in his times, but which he had the insight to see could occur under certain circumstances. Thus we have the warnings of these great men, passed down through the ages, about our very times and situations.

As my Christian Worldview teacher said, "We are so advanced that we are stupid." It is my goal to not only cultivate my mind, but the minds of future generations, to be as acute as these men's minds were. I hope one day to be the strong wife of a man who is seeking to restore our heritage in godliness, just as these men sought to create a godly nation.

As always, I love to hear the thoughts of my readers. Please leave a comment below!

North Carolina Marriage Amendment Update

For the past couple of weeks, Gaston County (the county in which I reside) has been in a heated debate about the North Carolina Marriage Protection Amendment (to see my previous post about this, click here).

The reason for this controversy is the proposal by Gaston County commissioner Tracy Philbeck that Gaston County take an active part in encouraging people to vote on May 8.

To see a recent interview with Tracy Philbeck, click here.
According to this proposal, the county would encourage people to vote for the Amendment,  and focus on raising awareness about the purpose of the Amendment in protecting traditional marriage. This would still allow people to decide for themselves, while encouraging them to actually take a stand for traditional marriage. As expected, this has raised a large scale controversy amongst gay rights activists and traditional marriage proponents in Gaston County. Last night, the debate came to a head in the Gaston County courthouse, where the county commissioners were preparing to vote on the proposal. We joined around 150 other supporters of the Amendment to encourage the county commissioners to vote for the proposal to raise awareness in Gaston County about this vital vote on May 8.

The courtroom was filled with those for and against the proposal, and there was also an overflow room filled with people.

We were able to get into the courtroom and see the debate first hand. For about an hour, people from both sides of the issue spoke passionately about why they thought Gaston County should or should not approve the proposal. There were about six pastors that spoke, which was such an encouragement in times where the church seems apathetic to public issues.

This man, a pastor, was for the proposal.

The county commissioners very graciously listened to each speaker.

After all of the speakers were through, the county commissioners discussed the proposal, and then they voted. The result was a unanimous vote FOR the proposal! We are so thankful for the courage of Tracy Philbeck in presenting this in the first place. He has received a lot of flack, and yet he stands firm. We are also thankful to Commissioner Chad Brown , who co-sponsored the proposal.

Thanks to all of the commissioners for voting the right way on this important and controversial issue. Most importantly, thanks be to the Lord for prompting godly men like Philbeck and Brown to hold public office! To view the news articles and videos regarding this, go here and here. Please keep in mind that the news orgazinations linked to do not hold the same values as we do.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR NORTH CAROLINA AS WE COME TO A DEFINITIVE DECISION ON MAY 8.

I hope to post the full video of the commissioner meeting in the near future, for those of you who are interested.

North Carolina Marriage Amendment

Please pray for the North Carolina Marriage Amendment to pass on May 8. This amendment would define marriage between one man and one woman. We are extremely excited to have this come up for vote in the primary elections this year!

If you live in North Carolina, please get educated about this and tell others about it as well. For more information, go to http://www.voteformarriagenc.com/. One useful way to get the word out in our state is to order signs like the one below on the website given.

I will post pictures from Easter soon!
